Wildlife & Documentary Filmmaking

Adaptibility

Adaptibility is the key to success for any shoot, even more so for wildlife and documentary filmmaking.

Spending hours, days and sometimes weeks working in extreme conditions can be challenging for anyone.

Fortunately, Peter thrives in these extreme conditions. With a dedication to getting the shot, Peter sets himself apart from his peers no matter the difficulty in doing so.

Long-range, remote jobs are no problem either. Peter has set up a Landcruiser as a filming vehicle, with adequate water, food and fuel for several weeks away from civilisation if needed.

Peter consistently delivers images beyond expectations by working with major brands such as the BBC’s Natural History Unit, Tourism Queensland and Cakewalk Media. The pursuit of excellence is what Peter thrives on, going above and beyond to deliver a vision far exceeding his client’s briefs.

Wildlife

Getting out amongst Mother Nature, telling her intertwined stories, life doesn't get much better than that.

Bringing nature’s daily battles to the screen can be interesting, heartbreaking, frustrating, and rewarding, all at the same time.

When it all comes together though, when all the preparation and planning just falls into place and you capture THAT sequence, well that’s worth the effort.

Sometimes we spend hours just waiting, sometimes things just happen unexpectedly in front of us. No matter what, you have to be ready. Fortunately, Peter has spent a lot of time filming wildlife and has a good sense of what is required to do it successfully.

“Wildlife & documentary filmmaking is not for the impatient.”

Equipment

Wildlife & documentary filmmaking requires not only the right attitude but also the right equipment.

Peter uses a range of cameras such as the Freefly Ember, for gorgeous slow-motion, an array of RED Digital Cinema cameras, and a wide range of lenses such as the workhorse Sigma 300-800mm telephoto lens.

Peter’s equipment is maintained to a high standard and covers a broad range of location needs.

One day Peter could be filming mating cuttlefish underwater. The next he could be filming travel adventurers crossing the Simpson Desert.

For productions that require stock footage, Peter has a range of clips available for purchase here.
